Acclaimed music director and conductor, Michael Butterman, has announced a temporary hiatus from his role to focus on his health after being diagnosed with lymphoma. The 58-year-old director and conductor currently leads four American orchestras, including the Boulder Philharmonic, which gained national recognition under his direction, and the Shreveport Symphony, where he has overseen a historic period of artistic growth under his leadership. He also became Music Director of the Williamsburg and Lancaster symphonies in 2022. Butterman plans to return when it is feasible, though his recovery may take time.
