4 Executives Cheat Death in Helicopter Crash
Eskom CEO Cheats Death On September 13th, it was reported by Times Live that four Eskom key executives were traveling on business when their helicopter crashed to the ground during landing and caught fire. Eskom CEO Brian Dames, divisional executives Steve Lennon, Louis Maleka, and Senior Manager Kerseri Pather, were all on the aircraft with two pilots. Luckily, all 6 occupants managed to escape the aircraft before it burst into flames and were treated at the scene. Eskom, is the largest producer of electricity in Africa, sourcing 95% of the continent with power. This was not the first time an Eskom helicopter went down. In 2007, an employee died in a tragic crash while on the job with Eskom. Unfortunately, tragic events illuminate how critical the need to protect a company's human capital is. |

WHAT IF: What would happen if Eskom's CEO and executives were not so lucky? Would you have recommended Accidental Death and Key Person Disability protection? |

Insuring human capital risk is a critical component to protecting a company's value. Last week a NYC based Insurance Advisor came to us to insure a charter flight for a leading video-game developing company that was placing four of its top executives on a single plane to the west coast and back. Within 48 hours, we issued terms, bound coverage, and issued a $100M policy to hedge against the ultimate corporate disaster. Now that the executive management team is safely back from the business trip, we are working with the advisor to engage the client in a more strategic “succession and insurance” discussion – sure to be a tremendous opportunity for 2012! Exceptional Risk Advisors provides High Limit Key Person Disability and Accidental Death insurance coverage as a prudent solution and provides a benefit to the company to stabilize financial and management structures in the event of an unforeseen event.
